Mountain getaways
Colorado living means mountain living! There are so many insanely beautiful mountains here and I am in love with Colorado! I absolutely love to travel and this place is hard to beat. I grew up going to the mountains for ski trips + summer trips + weekend getaways + day trips. They are the best memories as a kid and it is so fun continuing them now that I’m older. I honestly wish I could go to the mountains every (other) weekend.
Vail is my #1 favorite mountain getaway! Always has been. Not only do I love their mountains but Vail village is the cutest!! It has so many favorite restaurant spots and the buildings are gorgeous. I grew up going to Vail for the 4th of July every year and learned to ski on their mountains. It was THE BEST! I hadn’t been for the 4th in quite a few years and this year we continued the tradition. My parents, brothers, boyfriend and I went up and had such a good time!
We spent the day watching the 4th of July parade in the village + laying out at the pool + drinking wine + dinner at our favorite restaurant + watching fireworks right off of our balcony. Okay, it was mainly just my mom and I drinking wine. But still. So nostalgic + so happy! My family’s favorite dinner spot in Vail village is Russell’s Restaurant. It is a steakhouse right by the creek and I definitely would recommend requesting a table next to the creek. They open the huge windows and you can hear the creek and have such a beautiful view. Unfortunately this time around we didn’t get a table next to the creek but it was still an amazing dinner. My favorites are the filet mignon, crab legs, ribs, and trout. Add a bottle of wine and you're in for a good time!!
One of the best parts of our Vail trip was that we spent two days golfing at Vail Golf Club. Oh. My. God. It is the most gorgeous course I have ever played!! My dad is the greatest and treated us to the best time. Every single hole has an incredible view. Mountains, lush trees, creeks, and freakin gorgeous homes right on the course. We were loving checking out all the pretty (million dollar) homes. I played 16 holes with my one pink ball and then finally lost it on the 17th hole. Simply devasting. Hahaha. But on an amazing note – my boyfriend got his first eagle on the 18th hole!!!! Yeah babe!!
We spent the rest of our time by the pool, eating way too much, and indulging on yummy drinks. Three of my favorite things!!
How sweet is that!? We tried a new restaurant in the village called Pendulum and their cocktails were really creative! I liked their modern atmosphere and patio seating. Another favorite spot we have is Terra Bistro. It is our absolute favorite bar seating for happy hour! The bartenders are always super nice and the food and drinks are awesome. My mom, dad, and I have spent many hours chatting & eating at their bar. So good! I also highly recommend The Remedy Bar at the Four Seasons. It has an amazing deck and the inside is gorgeous.
There are way too many wonderful spots in Vail to name!! Vail will continue to be my #1 and I can’t wait to go up for a winter trip soon(ish)! Thankfully the Epic Local pass has 10 days at Vail!!
I recently took another trip up to Breckinridge. My parents invited my boyfriend and I and we couldn’t say no. Like how could we deny a weekend of fresh air & my parents wining and dining us!?! If you would say no to waking up & drinking a beer in a hot tub in the mountain air you are out of your gawd dayum mind. LOL. But seriously, my parents are so kind & fun and we always have a great time with them.
Breckinridge's downtown is also really cool! It has a lot of awesome shopping and small town restaurants. We explored downtown and stopped in a really cool store called Spice & Tea Merchants. It would be easy to spend hours there smelling different teasl! We wound up with a bunch of tea and a hot sauce we hadn’t in years called Frost. We had happy hour at a spot called Blue Stag Saloon which is a great spot. Wings + $4 drinks are always a good time. I haven’t tried it but Crepes A La Cart always has a huge line so it must be delicious!! Next time I go up there this is a must. Later we took a tour of Breckinridge Distillery for the first time and loved it!!
I highly recommend taking this tour if you visit Breckinridge. It is a really sweet building and their liquor is T A S T Y. It’s really hard to pick a favorite. If I had to pick it would be between the gin, pear vodka, and chili vodka. Or the regular vodka. AHHH IDK. Our tour guide was also a funny guy so it made the experience really fun. According to him, “Ethanol, it can tank ya up in more ways than one.”
On our last day in the mountains we went boating on Lake Dillon and let me tell ya, it was breathtaking! That may sound cheesy...but if you’ve visited places in Colorado and spent time in the mountain beauty you will understand. I sat on that boat in awe of everything around me. My favorite part of the trip! They have all kinds of boat rentals available and if you get the chance you should definitely get out on Lake Dillon!!! You will love it!
These pictures turned out beautifully but they definitely don’t do it justice! After our boat ride we ate at the popular Tiki Bar right by the lake. Get the fish tacos!! It had a great view of the water and the food was really good! It was the perfect end to a great weekend!!
I'm feeling extremely lucky to live in such a beautiful place and am itching to go to the mountains again after writing this post!! I hope you try some of these great spots in Vail & Breckinridge :)
What are your fave spots in the mountains?? Vail, Breckinridge, Winterpark, Copper Mountain, Keystone, Aspen….I love recommendations for restaurants, bars, shops, etc.!
